How to Update the Music Maker Theme

Keeping your Music Maker theme up to date is crucial for accessing the latest features, bug fixes, and security enhancements. This article will guide you through the update process. Get the latest version.

If you are using version 2.17 or below, follow the tutorial at the bottom of the page.

There are two primary ways to update your theme:

Option #1 – Instant Update

If your license key is activated and not expired, an update notice is on the Themes page.

Update Notice: You will not lose changes to your website. This applies to editing PHP and CSS files.

Instructions:

  1. In WordPress, click Themes under Appearance on the sidebar.
  2. Click the click here to update link in the update notice.
  3. Clear your browser cache and cache plugins.
  4. Done!

You must clear your browser cache and cache plugins after updating the theme for the code to refresh.

Option #2 – Upload Theme Manually

Instructions:

  1. Download the MusicMaker.zip file from your email or your account. ( Do Not Unzip )
  2. Click Appearance on the Sidebar.
  3. Click Add New Theme.
  4. Click Upload Theme.
  5. Click Choose File.
  6. Select the MusicMaker.zip file.
  7. Click Open.
  8. Click Replace Active with Uploaded.
  9. Clear your browser cache and cache plugins.
  10. Done!

Also, review the changelog to get familiar with all the theme changes.

Step by Step Instructions - 2.20 & Up

The name of the file you will be uploading is MusicMaker.zip

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Add New under Plugins on the sidebar.
  2. Search for Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades, click enter on your keyboard to search.
  3. Click Install Now, and then Activate.
  4. Under Appearance on the sidebar click Themes.
  5. Click Add New at the top of the page.
  6. On the Install Themes page click the Upload Theme link.
  7. Click the Browse button and search for the MusicMaker.zip file on your computer. Now click the Install Now button.
    Do not try to upload any other file that is not named MusicMaker.zip.

8. Next click the Activate link to make the updated theme live.
9. Update your WordPress permalinks.

  • Under Settings on the sidebar click Permalinks.
  • On the Permalinks Settings page click the Save Changes button.

How to Activate Your License Key


Common Update Problems

1. Error: PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT

If you get this message “PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10): Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature”. Please do the following:

  1. Please manually download the MusicMaker.zip file from the email or your account.
  2. Install the Easy Theme and Plugin, upgrade the plugin.
  3. Upload the MusicMaker.zip file to your server.

2. Missing Style.css Error

If you get this message, the wrong file is being uploaded. You need to upload the MusicMaker.zip file.

If you do not see the MusicMaker.zip file, unzip the initial zip file you downloaded and look for the correct zip file.


3. Location Already Exist” Error

You need to install the Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin before uploading the MusicMaker.zip file. Please rewatch the tutorial above.


4. How to Save the MusicMaker.zip File

Right-click the link, click “Save Link As…” and save the file to your desktop. Do not unzip the file.


5. Only 10 Beats Load?

You need to activate your license key.


6. I Don’t See the New Changes

Clear your browser cache, and clear and deactivate any cache plugins.


7. Beat Store Tab Missing?

You will NOT see the beat store tab in WordPress until you install the Easy Digital Downloads plugin. This plugin will be installed when you Install the Demo Content.


8. A Feature Isn’t Working

Try troubleshooting. Plugins and JavaScript are common problems.


9. Exceeds PHP Size Limit

It is suggested you contact your website host and ask for assistance in increasing your WordPress upload limit. The upload limit is not controlled by the Music Maker theme but by your host.

11. Outdated CSS Code

You should remove any CSS code that does something that the WordPress customizer does. If you don’t remove old conflicting code, it may cause issues when trying to change something in the WordPress Customizer.

Theme Options Panel Replaced

In version 2.18 the Theme Options panel has been replaced with the WordPress Customizer. was replaced. Please read the 2.18 release notes.

Then follow the tutorial below.

If you are using version 2.17 or below, follow this tutorial to update to 2.21.

The Updating Process:

  1. Put Site Under Construction49 Seconds

Let’s Get Started!


1. Under Construction ( 49 Seconds )

We will be putting your website under construction so you can hide changes while you work on it.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. In WordPress click Add New under Plugins on the sidebar.
  2. In the input on the top right search for Under Construction and click enter on your keyboard.
  3. Click the Install Button, then Activate button.
  4. A popup should appear, click the Settings – UnderConstruction link. If the popup does not appear click the Settings link Under Construction.
  5. On the UnderConstructionPage turn the Status to On.
  6. Click the Save Changes button.

This is what visitors will see.


2. Back-Up Theme Options ( 71 Seconds )

We will be backing up the Theme Options Panel info for reference with the new WordPress Customizer.

Save the plugin to your desktop. Do NOT this file.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. In WordPress click Add New under Plugins on the sidebar.
  2. Click the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page.
  3. Click the Browse button and search your computer for the music-maker-backup-settings.zip file. Select the file.
  4. Click the Install Now button.
  5. On the next page click the Activate Plugin button.
  6. Click Backup Theme Settings button on the sidebar in WordPress.
  7. At the top of your browser click File and Save Page As to save this page as an HTML file to your computer.

3. Update the Music Maker Theme ( 62 Seconds )

You should download the latest theme update to your desktop.

Cache Plugins Issues: If you are using a cache plugin, please clear your cache, and turn deactivate it to avoid problems.

After updating the Music Maker Theme clear your browser cache to make sure you see the new changes.

  1. In WordPress click Add New under Plugins on the sidebar.
  2. In the search box search for Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades, click enter or return on your keyboard to search.
  3. Once you find the plugin, click the Install Now button, and then click the Activate button.
  4. Under Appearance on the sidebar click Themes.
  5. Click the Add New button at the top of the page.
  6. On the Install Themes page click the Upload Theme link.
  7. Click the Browse button and search for the MusicMaker.zip file on your computer. Now click the Install Now button.
    – Do not try to upload any other file that is not named MusicMaker.zip.

    Common Issues

    • Missing Style.css Error
      If you get this message it is because you are uploading the wrong zip file. You need to upload the MusicMaker.zip file.
      If you do not see the MusicMaker.zip file, unzip the initial zip file you downloaded and look for the correct zip file.
    • Location Already Exist Error
      There are three possible causes for this issue.
      1. Missing Update Plugin – You will get this issue if you did not install the Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin. Please follow the steps above and install the plugin.
      2. Older Version of WordPress – If you did install the plugin, old versions of WordPress below 4.6 will require you to select a box on the upload page. Select Yes next to Upgrading existing theme.
      3. Server Permission Issues – If you did select yes and continue to have a issue, you may be having server permission issues. You will need to go to the themes page in WordPress, activate another WordPress theme, and delete the Music Maker theme. Then install the Music Maker theme again.

    8. Next click the Activate link to make the updated theme live.
    9. Next update your WordPress permalinks. Under Settings on the sidebar click Permalinks.
    10. On the Permalinks Settings page click the Save Changes button.


4. Update Full-Width Beat Store Templates ( 48 Seconds )

Only follow these steps if you were using the Beat Store ( Playlist / Full Width ) or Beat Store ( Paginated / Full Width ) templates.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. In WordPress, click All Pages on the sidebar under Pages.
  2. Find whatever page you created for your beat store and click the Edit link.
  3. In the Page Attributes box on the right either select the Beat Store ( Playlist ) or Beat Store ( Paginated ).
  4. Click the Update button.

The option to make your beat store full width is now in the WordPress Customizer.


5. Update Thumbnail Images ( 38 Seconds )

The image thumbnail sizes have been updated in the Beat Store playlist, so we need to regenerate the image sizes.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. In WordPress click Add New under Plugins on the sidebar.
  2. In the top right input search for Regenerate Thumbnails and click enter on your keyboard.
  3. Click the Install Now button. Then click Activate.
  4. Under Tools on the sidebar click Regen. Thumbnails.
  5. Click the Regenerate All Thumbnails button.
  6. Let it run…. and done!

6. Add Settings to Customizer ( 9 Minutes )

Here is when where you get to start using the new WordPress Customizer.

Open WordPress in one window, and the HTML file you saved in another browser window.


7. Add Content Below Your Beat Store

8. Clear Your Browser Cache

If your homepage and beat store don’t update once updating the theme, try clearing your browser cache.


What to do next!


Will I lose my website content when I update?

No, updating the theme does not delete your content (posts, pages, beats, etc.).

Do I need to update my child theme?

If you are using a child theme and haven’t modified the parent theme’s core files directly, you usually don’t need to update the child theme separately. However, ensure compatibility with the new parent theme version.

My license expired. Can I still update?

No, you need an active license to download the latest theme files and receive updates. You can renew your license at a discounted rate.

Where do I find my license key?

Your license key is in your purchase receipt email and on your account page.

How often should I update the theme?

It is recommended to update the theme whenever a new version is released to benefit from the latest improvements and security fixes. You can see the update history in the Changelog.
