Install Theme & Demo Content

Here is the getting started guide to using the Music Maker theme.

This tutorial is for version 3.0 and above. If you are using a older version follow this tutorial.

Theme Requirements

  • Website Host – Not WordPress.com (?)
  • Domain Name – Directed to your website host.
  • Music Maker WordPress theme – The MusicMaker.zip file.

Follow this tutorial if you have not installed WordPress on your server yet.


1. Install Theme & Plugins

Locate the MusicMaker.zip file.

 

Step by Step Instructions

Install Music Maker Theme

  1. Click Themes under Appearance
  2. Click Add New
  3. Click Upload Theme
  4. Click Browse and search for the MusicMaker.zip file on your computer
  5. Click Install Now
  6. Click Activate

Install Suggested Plugins

  1. Click Begin installing plugins
  2. Click the top checkbox to check all the plugins.
  3. Select Install in the drop down and click Apply.
    Don’t worry about warning messages.
  4. Click Getting Started under Music Maker on the sidebar.

Theme Installation Common Problems ( ? )

You will not see the Beat Store tab in yet, continue to the next steps.


1. Exceeds PHP Size Limit

It is suggested you contact your website host and ask for assistance on increasing your WordPress upload limit.

The upload limit is not controlled by the Music Maker theme, but by your host.


2. Missing Style.css Error

This error happens when you upload the wrong file. You need to upload the MusicMaker.zip file.

4. Beat Store Tab Missing?

You will NOT see the beat store tab in WordPress until you install the Easy Digital Downloads plugin. You will do this in the tutorials below.


2. Install Demo Content

Select one of the options below based on if you have a new or existing website.

New Website ( No Content )

Follow these steps if you have a new website with no content.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click the link under New Website on the getting started page.
  2. Click Import next to All Sample Content ( New Website )
  3. When the content is imported, close the browser tab.

Now go down to Update Settings

Existing Website ( Has Content )

Follow these steps if you have a existing website.

Step by Step Instructions

1. Import Limited Sample Content

  1. Click Import the Limited Sample Content link on the getting started page.
  2. Click Import next to Limited Sample Content ( Existing Website )
  3. When the content is imported, close the browser tab.

2. Create Blog Page

  1. Click Create Blog Page on the getting started page.
  2. Enter Blog into the title input
  3. Click Publish, then close the browser tab.

3. Create Homepage

  1. Click Create Homepage on the getting started page. 
  2. Enter Homepage into the title input
  3. Under Template select Frontpage Sections
  4. Click Publish, then close the browser tab.

4. Set Homepage

  1. Click Set Homepage on the getting started page.
  2. Select A static page
  3. Select the homepage you created under “Front page”
  4. Choose the blog page you created under “Posts page”
  5. Click Save & Publish, then close the browser tab.

5. Select Navigation Menu

  1. Click the Select Navigation Menu link
  2. Next to “select a menu” select “Main Navigation Menu” and click Select.
  3. In the Pages box check both “Home” & “Blog”
  4. Click Add to Menu
  5. Click Save Menu

Now go down to Update Settings ↓


3. Update Settings

Activate your license key to unlock the theme’s features.

 

Step by Step Instructions

1. Activate License

  1. Click Activate License on the getting started page.
  2. Enter your license key.
  3. Click Save Changes, then close the browser tab.

2. Import EDD Settings

  1.  Right-click and save this json file to your desktop.
  2. Click Import EDD Settings on the getting started page. 
  3. Click Browse under Import Settings
  4. Browse your computer for easy-digital-downloads.json
  5. Click Import, then close the browser tab.

3. Update Permalinks

  1. Click Permalinks on the getting started page.
  2. Select Post Name
  3. Click Save Changes, then close the browser tab.

4. Update Checkout Pages

  1. Click Checkout Pages on the getting started page.
  2. Check Checkout, Purchase Confirmation, Purchase History, Transaction Failed
  3. In the drop down select Edit and click Apply.
  4. Under Template select Full Width and Update, then close the browser tab.

5. Add Shopping Menu ( Optional )

  1. Click Shopping Menu on the getting started page.
  2. Select the menu: Main Navigation Menu
  3. Check Always display cart
  4. Select Align Right
  5. Click Save Changes, then close the browser tab.

6. Create Testimonial Slider

  1. Click Testimonial Slider on the getting started page.
  2. Click Slideshow
  3. Navigation Controls: “Sides: Previous/Next
  4. Uncheck Title
  5. Select Modern
  6. Click Save Changes, then close the browser tab.


4. Edit Payment Settings

To edit the beat store settings click Settings under Beat Store on the sidebar.
