Install Theme & Demo Content ( 2.21 & Below )

Here is the getting started guide to using the Music Maker theme.


Theme Requirements

What you need to use the theme:

  1. Website Host – Not WordPress.com (?)
  2. Domain Name – Directed to your website host.
  3. Music Maker WordPress theme – The MusicMaker.zip file.

Follow this tutorial if you have not installed WordPress on your server yet.


Install the Music Maker Theme

You need to upload the zip file named MusicMaker.zip.

You will not see the Beat Store tab in WordPress until you install the demo content.

Locate the MusicMaker.zip file. If the file you downloaded is named anything else, unzip the file and look for the MusicMaker.zip file.

  1. Click Themes under Appearance.
  2. Click Add New at the top of the page.
  3. Click Upload Theme
  4. Click Browse and search for the MusicMaker.zip file on your computer.
  5. Click Install Now.
  6. Click Activate.
  7. Update the WordPress permalinks ( Video Instructions ).
    1. Under Settings on the sidebar click Permalinks.
    2. Click the Post Name option and click the Save Changes button.


Setup Options

There are 2 set up options below:

  1. Install Demo Content – Follow these steps if you have a new site with no content.
    or
  2. Set Up Beat Store Only w/out Demo Content – Follow these steps if you have a existing WP website.

1. Install Demo Content ( New Site )

Install the demo content if you have a fresh WordPress install with no content.

Do not upload the sample content if you already have an existing site with content.

Download Sample Content Zip File
Right click and save the Sample Content file to your desktop.

Step by Step Instructions

3.1 Install Easy Digital Downloads ( 27 Seconds )

Easy Digital Downloads is a WordPress plugin that makes the beat store run.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Add New under Plugins on the sidebar.
  2. In the search field search for Easy Digital Downloads and click enter to search.
  3. Once you find the plugin, click Install Now and confirm the installation.
  4. Click Activate Plugin.


3.2 Import Widget Content ( 60 Seconds )

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Add New under Plugins.
  2. In the search field type Widget Importer & Exporter and click enter to search.
  3. Click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate Plugin
  5. Click Widget Importer & Exporter on the sidebar under Tools.
  6. Click Browse, search in the Sample-Content folder and select the widgets.wie file.
  7. Click Import Widgets.


3.3 Import Sample Content ( 50 Seconds )

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Import under Tools on the sidebar.
  2. Click Install Now.
  3. Click Run Importer
  4. Click Browse and look for the WordPress_Content.xml file in the Sample-Content folder.
  5. Click Upload file and import.
  6. Under Import Author select Admin
  7. Check the box that says “Download and import file attachments.”
  8. Click Submit

WordPress sample pages have been imported.


3.4 Import Easy Digital Downloads Sample Content ( 23 Seconds )

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Tools under Beat Store on the sidebar.
  2. Click Import / Export tab.
  3. Click Browser under Import Settings.
  4. Search the Sample-Content folder for the Easy Digital Downloads Settings.json file.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Click Import.


3.5 Activate the Default Menus ( 20 Seconds )

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Menus link under Appearance.
  2. Click the Manage Locations tab on the top of the page.
  3. For Header Menu select Main Navigation Menu.
  4. For the Footer Menu select Footer Navigation.
  5. Click Save Changes.


3.6 Select Homepage ( 24 Seconds )

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Reading link under Settings on the sidebar.
  2. Select the A static page option.
  3. Select the Beat Store option for Front page.
  4. Click Save Changes.


3.7 Activate Homepage Banner & Footer Widgets ( 31 Seconds )

Show Homepage Banners

  1. Click Customize under Appearance on the sidebar.
  2. Click General > Banners
  3. Check the boxes to show the banners.
  4. Click Save & Publish.

Show Footer Widgets

  1. While in the Customizer click the back Arrow twice to get back to see all the panels
  2. Click Footer > Settings
  3. Select Show under Footer Widget Area.
  4. Click Save & Publish.

3.8 Edit Beat Store Back-end Settings ( 4 Minutes )

The beat store backend has a lot of settings. I will focus on the most important here. You should go through each setting and at a later time.

Instructions

  1. Click Settings under Beat Store on the sidebar.
  2. Under General Settings select your Base Country, Base State/Province, and click Save Changes.
  3. Click Currency Settings text link.
  4. Under Currency Settings select your Currency, Currency position, and click Save Changes.
  5. Click Payment Gateways tab.
  6. Under Gateway Settings check PayPal standard and click Save Changes.
  7. Click the PayPal Standard text link.
  8. Enter your PayPal Email address and click Save Changes.
  9. Click Emails tab.
  10. Optional: Add a Logo and click Save Changes.
  11. Click the Purchase Receipts text link.
    • This is the email that is sent to customers when a beat is purchased.
  12. Edit the From Name and From Email Address.
    • Optional: Edit Purchase Email Subject, Purchase Email Heading, Purchase Receipt. Click Save Changes.
  13. Click the New Sales Notification text link.
    • This is the email that is sent to you when a beat is purchased.
  14. Enter your email address in Sale Notification Emails and click Save Changes.
  15. Click the Misc tab.
  16. Click the Terms of Agreement text link.
  17. Check the Agree to Terms option.
  18. Add an Agree to Terms Label. Example: Terms & Conditions

  20. Click Save Changes.

Important Note

Uncheck the “Test Payment” option before your site goes live.


3.9 What Next?

Here is a video overview of what to do after installing the demo content.

Theme Options Panel Replaced

The Theme Options panel has been replaced with the WordPress Customizer.
In WordPress click Customize under Appearance on the sidebar to change all the settings mentioned.

2. Set Up Beat Store Only w/out Demo Content

Here are the steps to follow to set up the beat store backend without installing the demo content.

If you installed the demo content, skip this article and jump to how to add beats.

4.1 Install Easy Digital Downloads ( 27 Seconds )

Easy Digital Downloads is a WordPress plugin that makes the beat store run.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. In WordPress click Add New under Plugins on the sidebar.
  2. In the search field search for “Easy Digital Downloads” and click enter to search.
  3. Once you find the plugin, click the Install Now link and confirm the installation.
  4. On the next screen click the Activate Plugin link.


4.2 Import & Customize Settings ( 3:20 )

Right-click and save this Sample File file to your desktop.

Step by Step Instructions

1. In WordPress click Tools under Beat Store on the sidebar.

2. Click the Import/Export tab.

3. Click the Browse button and select the Easy Digital Downloads.json file. ( Download the File Here & Unzip it ).

4. Click the Import button.

5. Now click the Settings link under Beat Store link on the sidebar.

I will only focus on what you need to do to get up and running. You should review the other settings on your own later.

Update all the settings mentioned below:


General Settings

  1. Checkout Page: Select Checkout
  2. Success Page: Select Purchase Confirmation
  3. Failed Transaction Page: Select Transaction Failed
  4. Purchase History Page: Select Purchase History
  5. Base Country: Select Your Country
  6. Base State / Province: Select Your State
  7. Click the Save Changes button

Click the Currency Settings text link.


Currency Settings

  1. Currency: Select Your Currency
  2. Currency Position: Select Your Currency Position
  3. Click the Save Changes button

Click the Payment Gateways tab.


Gateway Settings

  1. Check PayPal Standard
  2. Accepted Payment Method Icons: Check PayPal
  3. Click the Save Changes button

Click the PayPal Standard text link.


PayPal Standard Settings

  1. PayPal Email: Enter your active PayPal email address.
  2. Click the Save Changes button

Click the Emails tab.

Click the Purchase Receipts text link.


Purchase Receipts

This is the email that is sent to customers when a beat is purchased.

  1. From Name: Enter the name of your site, shop name or your name.
  2. From Email: Enter your email address.
  3. Purchase Email Subject: Enter the email subject.
  4. Purchase Email Heading: Enter the heading for the purchase receipt email.
  5. Purchase Receipt: Edit the email text.
  6. Click the Save Changes button.

Click the New Sale Notifications text link.


Sale Notifications

This is the email that is sent to you when a beat is purchased.

  1. Sale Notification Subject: Enter New Beat Sold – {date}
  2. Sale Notification: Customize the text.
  3. Sale Notification Emails: Enter your email address.
  4. Click the Save Changes button

Click the Misc tab on top of the page.

Click the Terms of Agreement text link.


Agreement Settings

This section is optional. This is where you can add terms & conditions for customers to agree to when buying a beat.

  1. Agree to Terms: Check to show, uncheck to hide.
  2. Agree to Terms Label: Edit text.
  3. Agreement Text: Add your own terms and agreement text.
  4. Click the Save Changes button.


4.3 Update Checkout Pages ( 20 Seconds )

Step by Step Instructions

When you installed the Easy Digital Downloads, the plugin added 4 pages to your website.

We want to make these pages full width for a better shopping experience.

  1. Click the Pages link on the sidebar.
  2. On All Pages, check these 4 pages:
    1. Checkout
    2. — Purchase Confirmation
    3. — Purchase History
    4. — Transaction Failed

  3. Once you have checked these pages, in the drop-down menu at the top of the table select Edit and click the Apply button.
  4. Where you see Template select Full Width
  5. Click the Update button on the right.


4.4 Add Beat Store Page ( 33 Seconds )

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click the Add New link under Pages on the sidebar in WordPress.
  2. Enter the title of your beat store
    Examples: Beat Store, Beats, Instrumentals, or whatever you like.
  3. Add any text that you would like to appear above the Beat Store page in the text area input. ( Optional )
  4. In the Page Attributes box on the right of the page, under Template select Beat Store ( Playlist ) in the drop down menu.

  5. Click the Publish button to make your page live.

The beat store page has now been created, but the beat store player will not work until beats are added.


4.5 Select Homepage ( 25 Seconds )

This step is optional. You don’t have to make your beat store your homepage if you do not want to.

Step by Step Instructions

How to Select Your Front Page

  1. Click the Reading link under Settings on the sidebar.
  2. Select the A static page option.
  3. Select the Beat Store option for Front page.
  4. Click Save Changes.


4.6 Import Sample Beats ( 1:26 )

Right click and save this Sample Beats file to your desktop.

Download Sample Beats File

 

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Click Import under Tools on the sidebar.
  2. Under WordPress click Install Now.
  3. Click Run Importer.
  4. Click the Browse button. Select the Sample Beats.xml file. ( Download the file and unzip )
  5. Click Open.
  6. Click Upload file and import.
  7. On the next page select admin or what ever user you like.
  8. Check the Download and import file attachments
  9. Click Submit.

The sample beats have been imported.
