Add Beat Pricing Table
Reorder Beats

The beats in your beat store appear with the most recently added beats appearing on top of the beat store, and older beats appearing at the bottom.

Instructions

1. Go to All Beats on the sidebar under Beat Store in WordPress.

beats

2. The order you see the beats in on this page is the same order they appear in the beat store table. So I would start by moving beats down in the table that you don’t want to appear on the top of the beat store table. You will see the beat publish date on the far right of the All Beats page.

date

Roll over the beat you would like to change the date of and click the Quick Edit link.

quick-edit

3. You can see in the image below the date of the beat is September 10th. If your most recent batch of beat uploads were around that time, I would simply change the 09-Sep to 08-Aug. So it would move this beat 1 month back and move it to the bottom of the page. Once you change the date, click the Update button.

Change the dates of a couple more beats, then refresh the All Beats page and the beats will be updated to the new order.

Beat Submission Page

Here is the code to make a beat submission page.

The idea of this page is if you have a music artist that you want to check out some specific beats, you can create a static page, add a couple of audio file previews, and link over to the single beat page for each of the beats if you want to encourage them to buy the beats. When creating the static page, you can even select to make the page password protected so no one else can access it.

You will have to update the beat name, beat url, and mp3 file location for the sample code below. The audio files below will not work until you update the mp3 file.

Hi [ Artist Name Here ],
Here are a few beats that I think you should check out for your up coming project. They were made with your style in mind. If you like any of them, let me know, and lets work out a deal. Thanks.

Discounts

How to Create a Discount Code

Here are details on how to create a discount code.

Step by step instructions:

1. In WordPress click Discount Codes under Beat Store on the sidebar.

discount-sidebar

2. Click the Add New button.

add-new-button

When creating a discount there are several fields to fill in:

  • Name – This is the name of the discount. It is mainly for admin purposes.
  • Code– This is the code that buyers will enter during checkout. We suggest that you DO NO include any spaces in the code.
  • Type – This determines the type of discount buyers will receive by using this code. The options are “Percentage” and “Flat”. A percentage discount, such as 10%, subtracts the specified percent off of the total purchase price. A flat discount subtracts the given amount from the total purchase price.
  • Amount – This specifies how much the discount is worth. Enter whole numbers only. For example, to set a discount to 10%, set the Type to “Percentage” and then enter “10″ here.
  • Download Requirements – This option allows you to specify which digital product(s) the coupon code applies to as well as which products are required before the coupon can be applied.
  • Start Date – This option allows you to dictate when the discount can first be used. If a buyer tries to use this discount before this date is reached, they will receive a “discount is invalid” error.
  • Expiration Date – This option lets you specify an end, or expiration, the date for the discount. Once this date is reached, this code will no longer be able to be used.
  • Minimum Amount – This option lets you set a minimum order amount that is required before buyers can apply the discount. For example if you set this to 100, (no currency sign), buyers will only be able to use this discount if they have at least $100 of beats in their shopping cart.
  • Max Uses – This sets the maximum number of times the discount code can be used.
  • Use Per Customer – As the title suggests, with this option checked you can limit the use of the coupon to once per customer.

Once you have filled in all the fields, click the Add Discount Code button.

After the discount is created, you can edit it at any time by clicking the “Edit” link on the right side of the screen.

Once you create an active discount code, this discount code message appears on the Checkout page.

How to Create a Buy 2 Beats Get 1 Free Discount

How the System Works

The beat store doesn’t give a discount off of how many beats are in the shopping cart, but by the total dollar amount in the beat shopping cart.

Example: If your leased beats are $19.99 each. 3 Leased beats add up to $59.97

So you will create a discount at a flat rate. If the shopping cart total is over $59.97, and the promo code is entered, remove a flat rate of $19.99. Which makes 1 beat free.

Payments

Can I Use Other Payment Systems?

Yes, the beat store is built around a plugin called Easy Digital Downloads and you can add additional payment options, but they aren’t free. I have no affiliation with the link.

Link: Payment Gateways

Can I Accept Credit Card Payments?

If you would like to take credit cards check out the add-ons below. I have no affiliation with these links.

What are PayPal's Fees

PayPal is great because they do not charge a monthly fee.

PayPal charges per transaction is 2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you receive. Read More.

File Uploads

Upload Limit Issue

WordPress file upload limits are not set or controlled by the Music Maker theme, but by your website host.

To increase your file upload limit you will need to contact your website host and ask them for help on increasing your WordPress upload limit to the highest they allow.

Since all website host are different, there is no universal way to increase your upload limit.

How to Use Google Drive for Large Files

Here are the steps to use Google Drive for your large WAV files and Tracked Out beats.

How to Use Google Drive

Many people have issues uploading large files through WordPress, so here is an alternative to test out.

Google Drive offers 15GB free storage, and you can get 100GB for $2 per month which is a great price.

1. If you have a Google account, you should already have a Google Drive account. Visit https://drive.google.com/drive/my-drive

2. Right-click to create a new folder named beats or call it whatever you like.

3. Double click on the new folder you created.

4. Drag multiple zip files into the window. I suggest you upload multiple beats in bulk.

The beats will start uploading.

5. Right-click the beat you want the URL of and click Get Shareable Link.

6. Copy the shareable link.

8. When adding or editing a beat, paste the link from Google Drive in the File URL input, and click the Publish or Update button.

So that is how you can attach large files from Google Drive to one of your beats.

I suggest testing out the beat buying process with the Google Drive link.

In the example image below, the WAV file is linked to the Google Drive file.

When the WAV link is clicked it opens in a new window for the customer to download. Example below.

Using Google Drive is not the safest method when it comes to protecting your files, but it is an option.

Upload Large Files to Your Server Through FTP

Some users have problems uploading large files to their server through WordPress, so the best suggestion I can give is to upload large files to your server using FTP software.

FTP Instructions

FTP software allows you to browse files on your server and upload multiple files easily.

Install FTP Software:

I use a free add-on for Firefox called FireFTP. It is a Fire Fox add on, so you will have to use the Fire Fox browser to use the add on. Get FireFTP here.

Here is a free FTP software for Google Chrome. You can use any FTP software of your choice.

Connect to Your Server with FTP software:

Once you have installed the FTP software, open the add on to enter your server personal information.

1. Click the FireFTP app link.

fireftp

2. Select the Create an Account in the drop down menu.

create - ftp

3. A pop-up window will appear. Enter your FTP login information. You should have received this information when signing up with your website host. Click OK.

ftp info

4. Click the Connect link.

connect-button

5. Once the FTP software is connected to your server, in the window on the right, browse your server for where WordPress is installed. Once you locate the folder, double click the wp-content folder.

connected-to-server

6. Double click the uploads folder.

upload-file22

7. In the window on the right, right click the open space and click the Create Directory option.

create-new-folder

8. Enter the name for the folder. Name it something simple, unique, and no spaces. In the example I created I called the folder my-beats.

my-folder-name

This will be the folder you upload your large zipped up audio files too.

9. Double click the folder you just created. This folder will be empty.

empty-folder

Upload a Beat to your Server:

Put the beat you want to upload to your server in a ZIP file. In the window on the left, browse to the location of your beat. Double click the file you want to upload and the file will upload to your server.

server

Locate the Zip File on Your Server:

Next you want to get the direct file location to the file you just uploaded to your server so you can add the file location to the file download section in WordPress when adding a beat.

If you added the folder to the WordPress uploads folder, the location of the file will look something like this.

http://your-address.com/wp-content/uploads/folder-name/file-name.zip

Update the orange text with your information. This is how my file location looks:

Test out the file location by entering it into your browser window and hitting enter. If you have the correct file location, your browser should begin to download the file.

enter-url

Add Beat to Download Files Location:

When you are adding a beat in WordPress, copy and paste the ZIP file location in the File URL input and enter the File Name for your file on the left.

wav-file

Your large file download should now be connected.

Do a test purchase to make sure your download works properly.

Extra Security Measure:

Download this index.html ZIP file.

Unzip this attached ZIP file and upload the index.html file to the folder your created on your server to upload beats. Adding the index.html to your server will prevent the folder from being viewable from the computer browsers.

Double click the index.html file to upload it to your server.

index-file

Security note: When a beat is purchased, a dynamic URL is created to download the beat, so the file location you created will not be viewable to the user.

Can I Upload Multiple Beats at Once?

The answer is Yes & No. You can upload multiple beats to WordPress or your server at once.

But you will still have to manually add each beats information and then you can copy and paste the beat preview and beat download once you have the file URL.

Details

Please note: Before uploading multiple files, try to come up with a file naming system that makes it easy to find the files you are looking for. You should account for .MP3 beat previews and your file downloads ( MP3, WAV, Etc. ) which should be in a zip file.

Uploading Multiple Files Through WordPress

In WordPress click Add New under Media Uploads on the sidebar. Drag and drop the beat previews and file downloads into the dotted box.

drop files here

Let the files upload. Once the files finish uploading, you have 2 options to get the file URL.

Option 1. From the Upload New Media Uploads file page you can open the Edit link in a new window and copy the files URL to paste it into the audio preview and file downloads input.

upload

Option 2: When adding a new beat click the Upload MP3 button. Then click the Media Uploads Library tab. Browse for the beat you are looking for and click Show. Click the File URL button and copy and paste the location of the files into the correct input.

browse

The other option to upload multiple beats is to use FTP software to upload multiple files to your website server.

Check out How to Upload Large Files to Your Server Through FTP Software. This solution is suggested if you have problems uploading files through WordPress.

Error: Sorry, File Type Not Permitted

If you get this issue try installing Disable Real MIME Check WordPress plugin. That should help.

Read More: Fix WordPress Issue “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.”

Plugin: Protect Uploads

The Protect Uploads plugin will add index files to your server to prevent users from browsing the upload folders.

Contracts

How to Include a Contract with Your Beats

Here are 2 suggestions on how you can include a contract with your beats.

Contract Options

1. Zip up the contract file with your beat.

When your customer downloads the beats, the contact is attached to the file.

2. Include the contract as a second file download with the beat.

The same way you would add the beat to download, you would add the contract to download. So that contract link will be added in the purchase email and also to the checkout page after their payment is made.

Contract

How Can Customers Sign Contracts?

This feature is not built into the Music Maker theme. You can Google “Sign Contracts Online”.

SignNow.com looks like it’s an affordable option.

I have now experience or affiliation with the link above.

How Tagged & Untagged Beats Work

When you add a beat to your beat store you will upload multiple versions of the beat.

  1. Tagged Beat – This is the tagged preview version of your beat. You must add tags manually before uploading.
  2. Untagged Beat – This can be a WAV or MP3, in a ZIP file.

Once your visitor pays for a beat, they are redirected to a download page to download the untagged beat and are sent an email confirmation with the download link as well.

In the beat store settings under the MISC tab, you can limit the number of times a download link can be clicked. By default the download link count is 3 times, then it expires.

Supported Audio Format ( MP3 )

The audio files for the audio player must be MP3 format.

However, you can upload other file formats for customers to download like WAV and Zip files.

Are Audio Tags Automatically Added?

No, you have to add the audio tags to the mp3 preview file before uploading it to the website.

And you will also upload the untagged audio file for the File Downloads.

Sorting Beats

Beat Genres or Beat Categories Links Don't Work

In WordPress sometimes when you rename or edit categories/genres names or their link structures it can stop links from working.

Instructions

Fixing this problem will be a trial and error process because it is different for everyone.

1. Save Permalinks

When ever you change your beat categories, beat genres, or beat tag names you need to re-save your permalink structure. You will do this by going to Permalinks under Settings on the sidebar. Click the Save Changes button.

Now test out the sorting links on your sidebar.

If the links do not work, try #2:

2. Re-change Names

If updating the permalinks didn’t work, you may have to try and go back to the old category, genre, or tag name you previously had. So go back and re-change the name and URL to what it was previously. Once you do this, go back and save your permalinks again.

Now test out the sorting links on your sidebar.

If the links do not work, try #3:

3. Delete and Add New

The last option is to delete the category, genre, or tag that is not linking right. Re-add the category, genre, or tag ( exactly the way you want ) and give it the URL structure you want when creating it. Once you do this, go back and save your permalinks again. You will have to go into your beats and re-add them into a genre, category, or tag group of your choice. This option should work.

Now test out the sorting links on your sidebar.

Reorder Beat Pricing in Price Drop-Down Men

In version 2.20 you can rearrange the pricing in the beat sorting price drop-down menu.

How to Change the Pricing Order

1. In WordPress click Price Range under Beat Store on the sidebar.

WordPress automatically sorts prices by the 1st number of the pricing like the example below.

  • 100.00
  • 19.99
  • 200.00
  • 69.99

What we need to do is adjust the slug name to put in in the correct order.

2. Roll over the different prices and click the Quick Edit link.

If your pricing goes up to 3 digits ( Example 999 ), add a zero ( 0 ) into the Slug input in front of the prices that have 2 digits and click the Update Item button. Do this for all 2 digit pricing.

By adding a zero in front of the double-digit pricing, prices will appear in this order.

  • 019.99
  • 069.99
  • 100.00
  • 200.00

The pricing in the drop-down menu will now sort by the slug input, in the order of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.

If you click the slug text link, you can sort the prices by the slug name to make sure the order is correct.

That’s it.

Can I have Multiple Beat Stores

No, all beats load in the same beat store.

But you can sort beats by Beat Category, Genre and Beat Tags.

You can link to these different sorting options in the header navigation menu, sorting bar about the beat store, and sidebar sorting widgets.

Create Visual Sorting Options

If you do not like any of the sorting options available, you can design your own graphics, upload them to your server, and use the text widget on your sidebar. With HTML you can link the graphics to your different beat categories, tags, and music genre.

Tip: If you do not know how to write HTML code. Use the visual editor with creating a static page or blog post. Copy over the HTML code to the text widget.

Multiple Producers

Can I Split Beat Commissions

You can not do this with the theme by default. There is a paid add-on by the creators of the Easy Digital Downloads plugin called Commissions.

Please note: I make no money from that plugin or referral.

Does the Theme Support Multiple Producers?

Unfortunately, the theme does not support multiple people. The beat store only allows you to enter 1 PayPal account to accept payments with.

Can Producers Sign Up & Sell Beats On My Website

No. The Music Maker theme does not have this feature.

Miscellaneous

Limit Exclusive Beats Sells

This feature is not included with the Music Maker theme.

Paid Plugin: Purchase Limit

  • I have no affiliation with this plugin.
  • This plugin allows you to limit the number of times a beat can be sold.
  • Beats are changed to sold, not removed from the beat store.
  • To use the limit purchase feature, beats can only have one license option. Example: Exclusive.

Can I Offer a Membership Website?

The Music Maker theme does not include any membership sign up features. But you may be able to find a free or paid plugin online that offers the membership features you are looking for.

Here are 4 member related plugins that are built to support the Easy Digital Downloads plugin.

How to do this:

2. In the code search for this snippet of code

array(
'name' => 'Description:',
'desc' => 'Enter a beat description. ( Optional )',
'id' => 'ecpt_beatdescription',
'class' => 'ecpt_beatdescription',
'type' => 'text',
'rich_editor' => 0,
'max' => 0 ),

3. Change ‘type’ => ‘text’, to ‘type’ => ‘textarea’,

You are changing the word text to text area.

4. Save the file and re-upload to your server.

Change the Beat Store Download URL

Place the following in your functions.php or any custom plugin to modify the slug of the download post type. Source

define('EDD_SLUG', 'my-downloads-slug');
  • Changing the URL may stop the sorting widgets and links from working.
  • After changing your update your permalinks.

Can the Beat Store be Separated?

No. The Music Maker theme and the beat store features are very integrated and dependent of one another.

If you have searched the help site and can’t find a beat store related question, ask below.
